For Photographers: How to Style Your Clients without Spending a Dime

Styling your clients can be a daunting task without the right tools. Here are my best tips on how to style your clients without stretching your wallet.

Create an Amazon wishlist

After taking your client’s personal style into consideration, compile a list of pieces that would work best for the shoot. Give them options to choose from and don’t be afraid to throw in a few wildcards, you never know what someone will love! Creating a wishlist for the client to go in and buy gives them the chance to pick their own curated pieces and keep them afterward.

Moodboard

This is a great budget-friendly option for both you and your client. Create a cohesive mood board based on your client’s style and season of the shoot. This gives your client an idea of how to coordinate items that they already have or what they need to buy.

Find out what they already have in their closet

Use some of your consultation time to discuss items that your client has and help them create a cohesive palette. Have your clients try on items and take a look at what they’ve put together. This will ensure their color palette is working as well as any textures and patterns they might have chosen.

Rental Options

Renting pieces has become a popular option for clients who want something specific for this shoot but may never use it again. Companies like Kindred Soul offer dozens of rental options for beautiful gowns.
